Doctoral Exam

  1. The doctoral examination in a foreign language shall be held outside the Centre for Foreign Languages, Humanities and Social Sciences, at the Faculty in which the doctoral thesis is open, on the recommendation of the chairperson of the examination committee.
  2.  The composition of the examination board shall be approved by the Faculty concerned.
  3. The examiners shall be academic staff of the Centre for Foreign Languages, Humanities and Social Sciences, and the chairperson of the committee shall be the Vice-Dean or Dean of the faculty concerned.
  4. The doctoral examination in a foreign language is an oral examination.
  5.  During the examination, the doctoral student presents his/her dissertation - title, methodology, discussion of results, conclusions, etc.
  6. The examiners have the right to ask the doctoral student to prepare an original specialised text in his/her field and to discuss it during the examination.
  7. The examination board has the right to ask questions related to the topic of the dissertation and the prepared text, both during and after the speech.
  8.  Knowledge of a general foreign language is also tested in the examination. The examiners may ask questions related to, for example, everyday life or the interests of the examinee.
  9. The doctoral student has the right to choose the topic on which he/she would like to answer.
  10. The speech may be interrupted with questions that are intended to test the ability to understand and discuss a selected topic.
  11. The range of vocabulary and language structures corresponds to a foreign language competence at B2 level (CEFR).
