Within the forum Meetings for Dialogue we invite guest speakers who share their knowledge and professional practice with our students, and whose passion inspires our students to learn foreign languages following different fields of science and culture. We want to show that learning a language is not limited to the artificial conditions of the “classroom”, which narrows its use. This is why we find lectures and meetings of Meetings for Dialogue a valuable support for the university language course, through which we show how to use a lively language in its variety of accents, cultural riches and the presentation styles of its users.
The aim of this project is to develop motivation in our students to learn foreign languages, to show how advantageous knowledge of a foreign language is in the present day world but even more than that we want to show that a language is an absolutely exceptional channel of communication among people.
Due to variety of faculties and fields at our University which is represented in the mixed groups of language courses, the range of subjects is wide. Among those lectures, which have already been held over the last 8 years it is worth mentioning that we have covered subjects including medical experiments on animals, revitalization of Esperanto language, journeys across cultures and literature or the healing power of gardens.
We keep Meetings for Dialogues open for all participants and our teachers who would like to organize a single meeting by inviting a guest speaker. If our students get inspired to study foreign languages and enjoy it, the idea of Meetings for Dialogue will prove fruitful.
