Our Language Center organises classes for students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. It is a four-semester medical specialist foreign language course based on professional medical textbooks and online materials. The course lasts from the second to the fourth semester of studies and is completed with a medical language exam at B2 or C1 level (CEFR).
The students can choose between different foreign languages: English, German, Spanish, French and Russian. During the study, the students become familiar with the vocabulary, expressions and texts concerning the anatomical structure of humans and animals, human and animal diseases, various medical specialties, medical procedures and diagnostics, and the structure and activities of clinics and hospitals in a chosen foreign language. Students also present their specific veterinary interests in a foreign language and expand their linguistic knowledge of the general aspects of a foreign language: grammar, idiomatic expressions, pronunciation and sentence structures.
In the first semester of studies, students of this faculty take an introductory course in the grammar of the Latin language for a better understanding and use of anatomical terminology. The course focuses on the correct pronunciation and declination of the terminology used. Students learn about the contemporary reception of classical culture and selected aspects of the history of veterinary medicine (ancient veterinary texts, early modern anatomical descriptions, etc.)
International students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, who study in English, learn the Polish language from the second to the fifth semester.
